Lakers Road to Championship Number 17

Lakers history:

The Los Angeles Lakers are one the most historic teams in the NBA and in all sports. The lakers have had plenty of Legends playing for their organization such as Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, the late great Kobe Bryant, and many more. These legends have all brought a championship to the lakers, 16 in total. During the mid to late 2010s, the lakers were in a playoff drought in which they did not make the playoffs for six straight seasons. Even though the lakers were missing the playoffs year after year they were able to build a bright young core of Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Brandon Ingram to develop into stars and bring playoff basketball back with the lakers.

The lakers were still missing the playoffs with this young core but the future of the Lakers was bright and, in the summer of 2018, the lakers signed the biggest free agent in the market in Lebron James. Many sports analysts questioned LeBron James for signing with the lakers, but the laker's legendary past and championship aspiration are one of the reasons why LeBron James joined the Lakers. LeBron’s first season with the Lakers was a disappointment because the players were constantly injured throughout the season and Lebron James had his first serious Injury in his career injuring his groin. The Lakers made a blockbuster trade and traded their young players including Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram to the New Orleans Pelicans for Anthony Davis.

The 2019-2020 Los Angeles Lakers:

Everything was going great for the Lakers until the start of 2020 that dramatically changed all our lives first the tragic death of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, then the rise of COVID– 19. Before the pandemic hit U.S., the lakers were on a roll and motivated to win the championship for Kobe. A couple of weeks later the NBA season got cancelled due to the virus.

After approximately two months the NBA season came back with strict restrictions and new rules, all contending teams had to play in the NBA bubble which was at Disney world. The bubble took a mental toll on everyone. The lakers were not playing like they were before the cancellation of the NBA season, and some thought that they were going to get eliminated in the first round by the Blazers. The lakers won that series in five games. A lot of sports analysts thought that the lakers were going to have trouble against the small ball Houston Rockets, the Lakers beat the Rockets in five games, and they advanced to the conference finals. Then the Lakers beat the Nuggets in five games to advance to the finals. The Lakers have reached the NBA finals and their opponent was against the Heat. The Lakers and Miami Heat battled as they were the last two teams remaining in the bubble. The Lakers ended up winning the NBA finals in six games becoming the 2019 – 2020 NBA Champions. The Lakers dedicated this championship run for Kobe and gave us NBA/Lakers fans a bit of joy on what was the one of the worst years that the world has experienced.

  2. I think it was great to trade out Lonzo Ball. In my opinion he was an overhyped kid that did not take advantage of the opportunities he had in front of him. It is because of the trade for Davis in my opinion that helped lead the Lakers to the championship ring.

  3. Fun fact: Lonzo Ball's mother was my PE teacher in 7th grade. Lakers have many legends such as Kobe Bryant, during his time Lakers were the best team in the NBA. It's great to see that they are coming up again.

  9. Lakers are slowly reforming their team and brand. Not going to lie they are a promising contender for the championship. Is it enough to beat the Buck though ;)

  10. I’m honestly not the biggest laker fan at all but it was very interesting. They did come a long way and had to do a lot to win.

  12. The Lakers are truly an iconic basketball team. Kobe Bryant's daughter played for a club soccer team which they named after him, Mamba FC. Many times I would be playing on fields next to her and got to get close to Kobe himself.
